Radon Testing: A Vital Part of Home Inspection
At Linkhorn Home Inspections, we understand how important it is for a home inspection to be thorough and complete. That’s why we always include radon testing as part of our comprehensive home inspection services in the greater Columbus area.
What Is Radon?
Radon is an odorless, colorless gas produced by the natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rocks. It can enter a home through cracks and openings in the foundation, or through well water. Radon can build up to high levels inside a home, making it dangerous to breathe.
Why Is Radon Testing Important?
Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon is responsible for approximately 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year. By testing for radon prior to purchasing a new home or during a routine inspection, you can detect elevated levels of this dangerous gas before they become hazardous to your health.
What Does Radon Testing Involve?
At Linkhorn Home Inspections, we use professional–grade radon testing kits for accuracy and reliability. Our experienced inspectors will set up these kits throughout your home – at least one per level – so that they can detect any presence of radon gas. After the 48 hours are up, we’ll send the results off to an independent laboratory for analysis and will provide you with a full report outlining our findings and recommendations on what steps should be taken if needed.
